A research-oriented skill recognition and certification initiative for India's artisans, craftspeople, technicians, and field workers.
Skill. Assessed. Certified. Celebrated.
VISHWAKARMA CRAFT is an initiative of SkillEdu VARSITY (SEVA) · www.skilleduvarsity.com
India's official data shows only 3% of the workforce is certified — yet millions of mechanics, electricians, weavers, farmers and artisans serve the nation every day. They are not unskilled. They are unrecognised. VISHWAKARMA CRAFT is here to change that.
The Recognition Gap
India's informal skilled workforce is the backbone of the economy. Yet without formal certification, their expertise is invisible — to government, to the market, and sometimes even to themselves.
An uncertified electrician or mason earns 30–50% less than a certified counterpart doing identical work — because the market cannot price competence it cannot verify.
Without academic credentials, skilled artisans and technicians are made to feel "uneducated" by a system that only values degrees — not decades of demonstrated mastery.
Ancient craft traditions, regional art forms, and heritage skill techniques are disappearing as master artisans age without successors — because the knowledge was never formally documented.
Our Vision
VISHWAKARMA CRAFT is named after the divine architect and patron of all craftspeople in Indian mythology. Every skilled worker in India — from the goldsmith in Rajasthan to the auto mechanic in Chennai — is a child of Vishwakarma's legacy. Our mission is to give that legacy the formal recognition it has always deserved.
How We Work
From finding the worker to giving them a degree-equivalent credential, every step of the journey is covered by a distinct, research-backed pillar.
District-level research teams systematically map and register every category of skilled worker in the informal economy across all trades and art forms.
Comprehensive multidisciplinary research on every skill domain — historical, cultural, economic, and technical — before a single worker is assessed.
Practical, oral, and portfolio-based assessment in the worker's own language and workspace — no written exam that penalises low literacy.
A nationally recognised VISHWAKARMA CRAFT certificate, digital credential, and Vishwakarma Skill ID — verifiable, portable, and DigiLocker-linked.
Structured pathways to the next competency level — domain modules, technology bridges, business skills — sponsored by industry partners at zero or minimal cost.
Every Skill Manual is a formal heritage archive. We pursue GI tags, UNESCO recognition, and IP protection for craft traditions at risk of disappearing.
The ultimate goal: skill-based academic degrees under NEP 2020, converting decades of mastery into accredited, globally portable qualifications.
From unrecognised artisan to certified professional to degree-holder — VISHWAKARMA CRAFT makes the entire journey possible for the first time in India.

Government Alignment
VISHWAKARMA CRAFT is not parallel to government schemes — it is the execution quality and research depth layer that these missions need to reach India's informal workforce at true scale.
VISHWAKARMA CRAFT serves as the formal competency-level certification arm for PM Vishwakarma beneficiaries needing documented skill verification beyond scheme registration.
We bring research rigour, industry endorsement, and genuine outreach to informal clusters that existing RPL camps have not yet reached — amplifying government certification goals.
Our academisation roadmap uses NEP 2020's credit-transfer and multiple entry-exit provisions to convert VISHWAKARMA CRAFT certificates into formal academic qualifications.
Certified artisans with documented skills directly strengthen the producer base behind each ODOP cluster — improving quality, export-readiness, and premium market positioning.
Our VISHWAKARMA Skill Manuals provide the research-backed evidence base required for new Geographical Indication applications for regional craft traditions.
The Vishwakarma Skill ID and all digital certificates are designed for DigiLocker integration and the Skill India Digital Platform — from day one of operations.
